Two-Day Kiteboarding Trip to Buen Hombre and Paradise Island
$150 Includes Everything!
Cabarete, Dominican Republic is one of the most popular kiteboarding spots in the world. Every day the wind blows (which is nearly every single day) we’re reminded how stoked we are to call Kite Beach home. But this is a beautiful country with miles and miles of beautiful coasts, so sometimes we pack up the bus with friends and visitors and go on a kiteboarding adventure! This one is a two-day kiteboarding trip Buen Hombre and Paradise Island. Photos Courtesy of La Comunidad de Buen Hombre
Playa Buen Hombre
Buen Hombre, Spanish for Good Man, is a little fishing town in the province of Monte Cristi. It’s about 3 hours west of Cabarete, and the scenery, culture, and conditions make it well worth the trip. Playa Buen Hombre, once considered a secret kite spot, is a shallow bay filled with buttery flat turquoise ocean water. The wind blows perfectly side-onshore, and the wind averages between 20-30knots. Since it is off the beaten path, there is plenty of wide open space to get more experience as a beginner or try your newest tricks as an advanced rider. Shout out to our friend Crystal Veness for the rad video.
Cayo Arena a.k.a Paradise Island
Cayo Arena is little sand bar held up by a coral reef off the coast of Punta Rusia, which is about 35km east of Buen Hombre. It’s tricky to measure the size of this tiny island since it shrinks and expands depending on the sea currents. At some point, the tour companies started calling it Paradise Island, which is ok because I don’t think anyone who has been there would dispute the title. This coral islet is visited daily by tons of tourists via speed boat who come to snorkel the emerald and turquoise waters stocked full of tropical fish. But once the wind starts to pick up, the tour boats depart hoping to avoid the chop – and that means it’s time for us to pump up and head out for an island-hopping downwinder!
